At the Institute of Electrical Engineering (ETI) of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), experts in power electronics, electrical machines, drive control, and energy storage systems conduct research. With about 70 employees, interdisciplinary cooperation of these neighboring research areas takes place in order to improve the increasing requirements in terms of power density, functionality, and energy efficiency and to create innovations.

In addition to research and teaching, the ETI is working on a wide range of projects in close cooperation with industry and public project sponsors to find innovative solutions and concepts for the future. In addition, the ETI offers an extensive equipment pool in which prototypes are built and tested for use.

Girls‘ Day at KIT 2025

On 3 April 2025, the annual Girls' Day took place at KIT. As part of one of 78 (!) workshops offered at KIT, schoolgirls in grades 5-7 at the Electrotechnical Institute (ETI), for example, had the opportunity to build their own electric motor. All participants mastered the task with great success and joy, so that in the end everything ran “smoothly”. Many thanks to all the helpers who made this great day at KIT possible.

Research Infrastructure for Innovative Power Grids (HPGL)

Kickoff has been given for the High Power Grid Lab (HPGL). By 2030, a globally unique test environment is to be created at KIT in which the system behavior of new grid technologies can be researched under realistic conditions. Even in the construction phase, the HPGL will form an international transfer hub for knowledge and technology in practical applications.
